Loop’s WOW Activity:   Ms. Loop’s class demonstrated on the first day of school that they could reach out to their new classmates and encourage each other after listening to the story ‘The Dot’. These are terrific teammates this year.

Mrs. Verdell and Mrs. Miller’s friends had a great first day.  They had fun playing I Spy to find school supplies in the sensory box!

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Sarah Smith as the newest Assistant Principal at Sugar Ridge Elementary! With 23 years of experience in education and advanced degrees in Administration and Leadership from Converse University, Mrs. Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for supporting students, staff, and families. We are excited to have her join the Sugar Ridge team and look forward to the positive impact she will make on our school community.

Mrs. Buxton’s class wants to wish our 5th graders, Madison and Lucas, the very best of luck as they head off to 6th grade! Keep working hard, stay kind, and never stop being You! We are SO proud of you both!

Our Spartanburg School District Two Summer Reading Camp (SRC) and Summer Learning Academy (SLA) are underway!

Both programs, welcomed students on June 1. Kelly McLean, an assistant principal in our district, is heading up the SRC based at Carlisle-Foster's Grove Elementary School.

"At SRC students work in smaller groups, so they get more intense instruction," McLean said. "When they come back to their home schools in August, they are more likely to remember how to put words together to make sentences and how to write stories, because they had that on going support for 5 weeks here at SRC."

Emily Brown, an interventionist at Boiling Springs Elementary, is guiding the SLA campus at Chesnee Elementary School.

"Our mission at SLA is to ensure our students to feel safe and loved as we are intentional about pushing them to new academic heights. Our weekly themes of perseverance, citizenship, courage, responsibility, and respect will be woven throughout our daily activities to encourage not just academic success, but also social and emotional growth.," Brown said. "We are excited to partner with families and our community as we celebrate the accomplishments and growth of our students this summer. "

Combined, the SLA and SRC will see more than 400 students receive top tier instruction from more than 70 staff members . McLean said this shows the commitment in our district to Making a Difference for Students Every Day!
